About Gainesville

The Gainesville Magisterial District is located in the Western end of Prince William County, a growing suburban area south of Washington, D.C.  After the 2010 census and redistricting, each magisterial district in Prince William County is made up of about 57,000 residents

The Gainesville District is a unique blend of new communities and older households, ranging from townhomes to farms.

Our community is attractive to many residents who want to live close enough to Washington to enjoy city amenities, but are also looking for a more local “town” type of feel.  Our housing prices are lower than some nearby counties, with communities that are just as nice, if not nicer.

Prince William County as a whole has an unemployment rate of 5.1%, lower than state and national figures.  We’re ranked #1 in job growth in Virginian and #3 nationally amongst 322 large counties in the U.S.  CNN Money ranks Prince William County #13 nationally in job growth from 2000 through 2010.  The county is the 9th wealthiest county in the nation in terms of median household incomes.

The schools in the Gainesville District are among some of the best in the country.  Our schools routinely receive national awards, are named “Schools of Excellence” and we’ve been listed as one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People.”  For more information about Prince William County schools, please visit their website.

We have beautiful parks, most notable of which is the Manassas Battlefield Park, where the First and Second Battles of Manassas (also called the Battles of Bull Run) were fought during the Civil War.  Other parks located in the Gainesville District include Silver Lake, Catharpin Park, Splash Down Waterpark, James S. Long Regional Park, Ben Lomond Community Center, Ellis Barron Park, Fairmont Park, and the Mayhew Sports Complex.

We are also home to the Northern Virginia Community College Manassas Campus.

Being near Washington, D.C., with access to Interstate 66 and Washington Dulles International Airport, the Gainesville District is uniquely positioned as a destination for working families and businesses.
